What is Slot & Shaft?
Slot & Shaft is a design studio for furniture built from aluminum extrusion (T-slot profiles) and round linear shafts. Both are standard industrial parts: strong, reusable, and sold cut to length. The hard part has always been knowing exactly which pieces to buy. We do that part for you.
- Templates you can resize. Width, depth and height to the centimeter, within each design’s safe range.
- A parts list that matches the model. The 3D view and the list come from the same design data. Same part count, same lengths, same hardware.
- Metric first, inches alongside. Every dimension is shown both ways.
How it works
- Choose a project, or describe what you need to the design assistant (experimental).
- Resize it in 3D. The model and parts list update together.
- Tap “Parts list.” The model comes apart and lays every piece out, lettered and counted to match the list.
- Buy the parts from the US sellers linked on each line, and build it yourself.
Would you rather get everything pre-cut in one box? Buy as a pre-cut kit — join the waitlist. We’ll email you when kits are available. No payment is taken now.

| Part | What it's for |
|---|---|
| 3030 aluminum extrusion | 30 × 30 mm, 8 mm slot. Shelves, carts, enclosures |
| 4040 aluminum extrusion | 40 × 40 mm, 10 mm slot. Desks, workbenches, tall frames |
| T-slot nuts & bolts | Attach anything, anywhere along a slot |
| L brackets | The simplest 90° joint, no drilling needed |
| Connectors | Every way to join two profiles |
Slot widths per MISUMI HFS6-3030 and HFS8-4040.
How we label designs
Not every design has been built yet, and we say so:
- AI draft: generated by the design assistant and checked by our fit rules, but not yet built. You could be the first.
- Test-built by us: we built it ourselves.
Built one? Share your build: photos, what fit and what didn’t. Every report helps the next builder.

New to aluminum extrusion?
Aluminum extrusion is made by pushing a heated aluminum billet through a shaped die, producing long parts with a constant cross-section (AEC). Aluminum weighs about 1/3 as much as steel and doesn’t rust (AEC). Read the full guide: What Is Aluminum Extrusion?
FAQ
Do you sell aluminum extrusion?
Not directly yet. We design the furniture and generate the parts list, and each line links to a US seller. Pre-cut kits from us are planned. Join the waitlist on any project to hear first.
Will the parts actually fit together?
The parts list is generated from the same design data as the 3D model, and each design passes our fit rules (lengths, hardware, slot compatibility) before it’s shown. Designs that haven’t been built yet are labeled as AI drafts.
What tools do I need?
For bracket-based frames, mostly hex keys that match the bolts on your parts list. The button-head bolts we specify take a 4 mm hex key (M6) or a 5 mm hex key (M8) (ISO 7380-1).
Metric or inch?
Metric. Our profiles are metric sizes like 3030 and 4040, and every dimension also appears in inches.
Do I need an account?
No. Browsing, designing and sharing a design link don’t need an account. You only sign in (email code or Google) to post a build.
